#Οpen Creative Commons Greece @ FROWN: A Creative Commons Festival in Athens, Greece!

The Open Source Movement is not related only to software issues, but it also promotes legitimacy, openness, sharing and the re-use of coding, content (texts, music, films, information, data, files) and knowledge. Furthermore, it introduces us to a world of a different value system. Creative Commons licenses, the most popular open licensing system, offer to creators the ability to legally distribute their work as they choose.

Creative Commons Greece in collaboration with Frown and with the support of Greek Free / Open Source Software Society (GFOSS) organize a two-days festival on the 7th and 8th of December at Frown. The #Open, Creative Commons in Greece festival addresses both the public and the creators through workshops, round tables and performances by Greek creators, who work with Open Software, Open Licensing, Open Hardware, and belong to the Open Source Movement.

Key concepts:

  • the notion and the importance of Open Content
  • new media and the possibilities offered on Intellectual Property, Digitization and Distribution
  • Open Software/ applications in contemporary sound and video production
  • the Creative Commons licences and the concept of Intellectual Property in contemporary production
  • Performances and presentation on works of Greek artists that implement Open Software and Open Licensing

Saturday, 7 of December

Round Tables :

During round tables the participants will present open source tools, as well as exchange knowledge and experience in regard to them. During the discussions, there will be a showcase of their possibilities and of artistic projects created with open source software, hardware etc

11.00- 12.00 Super Collider – Marinos Koutsomichalis

SuperCollider is a programming language for real time sound synthesis and algorithmic composition.

12.00- 13.00 Audacity – Marinos Koutsomichalis

Audacity is a freeopen sourcedigital audio editor and recording computer software application,

13.00- 14.00 Pure Data – Alexandros Dremonitis

Pure Data (Pd) is an open source visual programming languagethat enables creating software graphically, without writing lines of code. Pd is used to process and generate sound, video, 2D/3D graphics, and interface sensors, input devices, and MIDIfor multimedia projects.

15.00- 17.00 Open Talk/Workshop: “Intellectual Property in Digital Times and the Creative Commons Licensing”, Prodromos Tsiavos (GFOSS) and Maria Mertzani (Creative Commons Greece) will give a talk on Intellectual Property management in Greece in regard to its digital and artistic aspect and they will explain the concept of Open Licensing , why one should choose Creative Commons Licensing in order to distribute their work, the actual process and the business models that emerge through Open Licensing in the near future.  (duration 2 days)

15.00- 17.00 Screenings

Greek creators explain why they choose Creative Commons Licensing” (Technopolis 2012), films and documentaries that were screened during the  Nordic Creative Commons Film Festival 2013, screenings related to the use of Open Licensing as well as talks staged during Creative Commons Festivals worldwide.

19.00- 22.00 Sound Performances – Artists TBA soon

11.00- 12.30 Arduino – Aphroditi Psarra

Arduino is a microprocessor that allows communication between computers and physical objects. The programming language of Arduino is based on is a simplification of C/C++ and enables the creation of electronic prototypes.

12.30- 14.00 Processing – Thodoris Papatheodorou

Processing is a programming language that was created by artists as a means of creative programming. It is a simplification of Java that facilitates visual programming and that enables instant visual result.
